Ask my audience: should our café charge extra for oat milk, or keep one price?

Focus Group with six coffee buyers is ready. Run it?

Yes, run it.

Example

Keep one price.

Five of six would rather pay a little more for every coffee than a surcharge on oat milk.

The shift

Right now, your customer is the last person to see the price, the ad, the product. makes them the first.

When audience research comes too late
  1. A decision lands on your desk
  2. The team debates what customers might think
  3. Research means recruiting people and waiting weeks
  4. The deadline arrives, so someone makes the call
  5. The work is built and the budget committed
  6. It goes live
  7. Only then do customers answer
When AYA is in the workflow
  1. A decision lands on your desk
  2. You choose the people it affects
  3. You ask with a Snapshot, interview, focus group or test
  4. You read every answer and where the audience splits
  5. You change the idea while it is easy to change
  6. You build and spend with the evidence in hand
  7. Your audience helped make the decision

No recruiting. No five-figure invoice. No six-week wait. Research stops being one big event a year and becomes something you do on a Tuesday.

does not replace the annual brand tracker or the big segmentation study. It replaces the guessing you do between them.

60 seconds with your audience

A payment plan, a delivery fee, a car insurance price. You read every answer, one person at a time.

Each example below is a single question put to 100 closely matched people, and you can read every answer individually. That study is called an Audience Scan. Pick a market to see one.

What the team asked

0of 100 would
not use it

71 would not use it at checkout. Most objected to the embarrassment of visibly borrowing for a normal food shop, not to the £40 instalments. The 17 who were unsure wanted the option offered privately for an exceptional month.

71 would not17 unsure12 would

Jessica, 35Brixton · nurse
Would not
No. If I need to split a normal food shop, I feel like I've lost control. And I don't want the cashier or the person behind me seeing me choose it.
Ade, 38Peckham · construction and engineering
Would not
The £40 is manageable. It is seeing the weekly shop on credit and having to explain it at home. I would not choose that at the till.
Amina, 21Brixton · healthcare student
Unsure
In January, after Christmas, I might use it. Offer it quietly in the app after I have paid, not as a big button at checkout.
What the research changed

Keep the payment plan, but remove it from the checkout. Test it as a private post-purchase option in the app, framed as help for an expensive week. The barrier was visibility and stigma, not the instalment size.

0of 100 would
not pay for it

62 would not pay for an everyday shop they already pass on the way home. The 17 who would pay saw it as help in an urgent moment, while 21 were unsure the 15-minute promise could be trusted.

62 would not21 unsure17 would

Chloe, 23De Pijp · student and barista
Would not
I cycle past two supermarkets on my way home. Paying €4.95 to avoid a stop that takes five minutes makes no sense to me.
Claire, 40Amsterdam Zuid · stay-at-home parent
Would
At five on Sunday with a sick child and nothing for dinner, absolutely. I would pay €4.95 then. I would not use it for the normal weekly shop.
Daan, 20Nieuw-West · student and delivery driver
Unsure
Fifteen minutes sounds good, but only if it really arrives in fifteen. If it takes forty, I have paid extra and still have no dinner.
What the research changed

Position the service as an evening and weekend rescue, not an everyday alternative to shopping. Target urgent household moments and replace the broad speed claim with a clear on-time guarantee.

0of 100 would
switch

54 would switch for a lower mileage-based price. 39 rejected a mandatory tracker because they did not want their location or driving monitored. Seven needed to see the saving before deciding.

39 refuse the tracker7 unsure54 want the price

Ariana, 33Naxxar · finance-sector marketing
Would not
The mileage price could suit me, but I do not want an insurer recording where I go. A lower price is not worth handing over my location.
Jean-Paul, 29Sliema · software developer
Would
If it only counts kilometres and cannot see where I go, yes. I drive about 6,000 kilometres a year and I am paying as if I do twice that.
Carmen, 72Marsaskala · retired
Unsure
Show me the saving first. If I have to install an app and report the mileage every month, it is too much trouble.
What the research changed

Keep mileage-based pricing, but remove mandatory location tracking. Test twice-yearly odometer photos and show the expected annual saving before asking people to switch.

Running your first study

Choose your audience. Ask your question. Read the answers.

01

Tell us who you need to hear from

Choose a country, city or customer type, or describe the people you need. Your matched audience is ready in about two minutes and saved for next time.

02

Ask one clear question

Type the decision in plain English. Start with a free Snapshot, or use a Concept Test, Focus Group or 1-to-1 Interview when you need more depth.

03

Read the answers

See every answer in their own words, where people agree, where they split, what stops them and what to change next. Share the report or take the clearest quote straight into your deck.

Why 100 answers beat one

A hundred people who argue with each other are worth more than one answer that agrees with you.

Ask a chatbot whether people would pay £4.50 and you get one confident, agreeable answer, which tells you nothing. Real people disagree with each other, and the disagreement is usually where the answer is.
